Upon this, River Lord was delighted and exclaimed, "I am the most magnificent being in the world!" He thought that all wonders were within his grasp.
[Annotation] The vastness of the river is like a mighty dragon. It is said that autumn is the time when water flows abundantly, as if it were an endless ocean. All rivers flow into the Yellow River, which fills to overflowing. Its waters are so vast that even from afar, one cannot distinguish cattle or horses.
[Exegesis] North Sea God spoke thus: "You are like a frog in a well who does not know how big the world is. You are also like a summer insect who does not understand winter." These words were meant to advise River Lord to broaden his horizons and see beyond his narrow perspective.
The passage goes on to explain how River Lord came to realize his own limitations and gained wisdom from North Sea God's teachings. In conclusion, it highlights how understanding and appreciating nature's grandeur can lead us towards enlightenment and self-discovery.
